Troubleshooting
Forgotten the recorder password
Most recorders offer a reset through a security question or a manufacturer-generated code tied to the device serial and date. Reset procedures vary by brand and firmware. Never buy a used recorder without confirming the password can be reset, because a locked recorder is unusable.
Manufacturer reset code
Many brands generate a temporary code from the device serial number and current date, issued through their support channel. It requires proof you own the equipment.
Security questions
Newer firmware sets these during first configuration. If they were answered at install, resetting is straightforward.
Physical reset
Some recorders have a board-level reset that clears settings and sometimes the recording configuration. It should be the last option, not the first.

Can you unlock my recorder?
Usually, through the manufacturer's proper reset process, with proof of ownership. We will not bypass security on equipment somebody cannot show they own.
Will resetting delete my footage?
Normally no — footage is on the drive and the reset affects settings. Some methods do reformat, so tell us if the footage matters before we start.
Need this doing?
Security camera repair covers cameras showing no image, recorders that stopped recording, footage you cannot retrieve, and systems that lost remote viewing. Most faults are power, cable or configuration rather than a failed camera. Diagnosis is free, and we quote a fixed price before doing any work.
