Too many motion alerts
False motion alerts come from insects near infra-red, moving vegetation, rain, and headlights sweeping across a camera. The fix is masking irrelevant zones, adjusting sensitivity, and using a camera that detects human shapes rather than pixel change. Untuned motion detection is why most people switch alerts off.
Mask what does not matter
Every recorder lets you exclude zones from detection. Excluding the road, the tree and the sky removes most triggers without reducing real coverage.
Insects at night
Infra-red attracts insects, which fly close to the lens and look like large fast movement. Moving the illuminator away from the lens, or a separate light, reduces it.
Human detection
Newer cameras detect people and vehicles rather than raw movement. It is a substantial improvement and worth specifying if alerts matter to you.
Why does my CCTV send so many false alerts?
Should I just turn alerts off?
That is what most people do, and then the system stops being useful. Half an hour of tuning usually gets alerts down to something you will actually read.
Do alerts cost data?
Push notifications are tiny. Watching the clip that follows uses data. If you are on a limited package, set alerts to notify without auto-playing video.
