Motion recording vs continuous recording
Record continuously on tills and entrances, where you cannot afford a missed frame. Record on motion for boundaries, stock rooms and yards, where it can multiply retention several times over. Mixing the two per camera gives longer useful history without buying a larger drive.
Where continuous is essential
Anywhere a dispute could turn on a few seconds — the till, the counter, the entrance. Motion detection can miss the start of an event, and that is often the part that matters.
Where motion pays
A stock room door or a boundary wall is still for most of the day. Recording only movement there can turn two weeks of retention into two months.
False triggers
Rain, insects, moving branches and headlights all trigger motion. Tuning the sensitivity and masking irrelevant zones is part of a proper setup, not an optional extra.
Should CCTV record continuously or only on motion?

It can miss the first second while detection triggers, and it misses anything the sensitivity is set too low to see. That is exactly why tills and entrances stay on continuous.
Can I set it differently per camera?
Yes, and that is the right way to do it. Every recorder supports per-channel schedules, and we set them from how each position is actually used.
