The recorder says storage is full
A full drive is normal — recorders are meant to overwrite the oldest footage automatically. If recording has stopped instead, overwrite is disabled. Enable it and recording resumes immediately. If you need longer history, the answer is a larger drive, not a settings change.
Enable overwrite
Almost every recorder has an overwrite or recycle setting. With it on, a full drive is a non-event. With it off, recording simply stops when full.
Export first if it matters
Enabling overwrite starts deleting the oldest footage. If anything from that period matters, export it before you change the setting.
Then size the drive properly
If you are running out sooner than you want, the real fix is a bigger drive or motion recording on the quieter cameras.
What do I do when CCTV storage is full?
Will I lose footage if I enable overwrite?
Only the oldest, and only as new footage needs the space. Nothing is deleted immediately. Export anything you need first and you lose nothing that matters.
How big a drive do I need?
Work backwards from retention. Four 2MP cameras recording continuously use roughly 1 TB per 15 to 20 days, so a month needs about 2 TB.
