Moving a CCTV system to new premises
Yes. Cameras, the recorder and often the brackets move to new premises. What does not move is the cable, which stays in the old building. Budget for new cabling and installation, and treat the equipment cost as already paid.
Cable stays behind
Cable is embedded in the old building and is rarely worth recovering. It is also the largest part of the labour, so a move costs more than people expect.
Keep the brackets and fixings
Brackets, glands and power supplies all move and are worth keeping. So are the original boxes if you still have them.
Re-plan, do not copy
The new premises has different sight-lines. Copying the old camera positions into a different building wastes cameras. A short re-survey is worth it.
Can I take my CCTV system with me when I move?
Do you remove and refit systems?
Yes, regularly. It is considerably cheaper than buying again, and we re-survey the new premises so the cameras end up somewhere useful.
Will the recorder still work at the new address?
Yes. It will need reconnecting to the new internet connection for remote viewing, which we do as part of the refit.
