CCTV upgrade cost
Upgrading is usually far cheaper than a fresh install because the cabling — the most expensive part — is already there. Camera and recorder upgrades reusing sound existing coax can cost a fraction of starting again, provided the runs test properly.
Test the cable first
Old cable is not always in the condition people assume. Corroded joints and crushed runs are common, and a failed reuse costs more than a rewire would have.
Hybrid recorders save money
Keep working analogue cameras and add IP only where higher resolution earns its cost — usually the entrance and the till.
Do not forget storage
Higher-resolution cameras need more storage for the same retention. Upgrading cameras alone quietly shortens your history.
How much does it cost to upgrade CCTV?
Is it cheaper to upgrade or replace?
Upgrade, if the cabling is sound, because that is where the labour is. If the cable is failing or badly routed, replacing gives a better system for a similar price.
Can I keep some of my old cameras?
Often yes, with a hybrid recorder. Bring the model numbers to the survey and we will tell you which are worth keeping and which are not.
