CCTV cabling cost
Cabling and labour usually cost more than the cameras on any system with runs over a few metres. Price depends on distance, whether conduit can be concealed, and how many walls or floors have to be crossed. It is also the part that determines how long the system lasts.
It is the biggest line, and the most skipped
Cheap cabling is the most expensive thing in a building. Poor joints and unprotected runs cause the majority of faults we are later called out to.
Concealed versus surface
Chasing into plaster costs more and looks better. Surface conduit is quicker, cheaper and completely acceptable — and it is removable, which matters in rented premises.
Reusing existing cable
Existing coax often carries modern cameras up to 5MP, which can save a full rewire. We test it before recommending reuse.
How much does CCTV cabling cost?
Why is cabling more expensive than the cameras?
Because it is labour and it is where the system's reliability actually comes from. Anyone saving money on cable is deferring a fault, not avoiding a cost.
Can I run the cable myself and have you terminate?
Yes, some clients do, and it can save money. We will tell you what cable and what route before you start so the runs are usable.
