Comparing the major CCTV brands
The major brands are broadly comparable in image quality at the same price point. What actually differs is local parts availability, app quality and how long firmware keeps being updated. Buy the brand your installer stocks parts for — a repair next year matters more than a specification sheet today.
Image quality is not the differentiator
At the same resolution and sensor size, the leading brands perform similarly. Marketing comparisons rarely reflect what you will notice on your own premises.
Parts availability is
A camera that fails in year three needs a replacement that matches the recorder. If nobody locally stocks that range, a small fault becomes a system replacement.
App and firmware support
The mobile app is what you will use daily, and firmware updates are what keep the system secure. Both vary more between brands than image quality does.
Which CCTV brand is best?
Are cheap unbranded cameras worth it?
Rarely. The camera may be fine; the problem is that in two years nobody can supply a matching replacement, and the recorder often will not accept an alternative. That turns a one-camera fault into a whole-system cost.
