How to judge a CCTV installer before you buy
Ask for a written itemised quote with model numbers, ask who will hold the admin password, ask what happens when a camera fails in year two, and ask to see a marked-up camera plan before you pay. An installer who will not produce those four things is not the one to use.
Itemised quote, model numbers included
A single figure with no breakdown makes it impossible to compare quotes or to know what you are getting. Every camera, the recorder, the drive and the labour should be separate lines.
Who holds the admin password
You should. An installer who keeps admin access to your system has you locked to them. Ask directly, before the deposit.
A plan, not a promise
A marked-up plan showing camera positions and what each one covers proves somebody actually surveyed the site rather than guessing a camera count.
The year-two question
Ask what a call-out costs after the warranty ends and whether they hold parts. That answer tells you whether you are buying a system or just a box.
How do I choose a CCTV company?
Why are CCTV quotes so different from each other?
Usually camera count and storage. One quote covers your entrances properly with four good cameras and a month of footage; another has twelve cheap cameras and two weeks. Compare the plan and the retention, not the headline price.
Is the cheapest quote ever the right one?
Sometimes, if the plan is sound. More often the saving comes from a smaller drive, a cheaper power supply or no survey — the three places where cutting cost costs you later.
