Troubleshooting
A new camera is not detected
A new IP camera not appearing usually means it is on a different address range from the recorder, or the recorder's channel is set to the wrong protocol. For analogue, a channel set to the wrong signal format shows nothing even though the camera works.
Address range
An IP camera fresh from the box uses the manufacturer's default address. If that does not match the recorder's network, it will not appear until it is set correctly.
Protocol mismatch
Mixed-brand IP cameras usually need the recorder's channel set to a generic protocol rather than the manufacturer's own. It is a menu setting, not a fault.
Analogue signal format
Analogue channels must match the camera's signal type. Recorders often auto-detect, but a manual setting left from a previous camera will block a new one.
Why will my recorder not detect a new camera?
Can I mix camera brands on one recorder?
Usually yes, using a generic protocol, though some features are lost. Sticking to one brand is simpler, and it also means parts are available together in three years.
The camera works on my phone but not the recorder. Why?
That confirms the camera and cable are fine, and points at the recorder configuration — normally the protocol or the address. It is a settings visit, not a replacement.
Need this doing?
Security camera repair covers cameras showing no image, recorders that stopped recording, footage you cannot retrieve, and systems that lost remote viewing. Most faults are power, cable or configuration rather than a failed camera. Diagnosis is free, and we quote a fixed price before doing any work.
