A cable has been cut or damaged
A cut cable takes that camera offline and shows video loss at the recorder. Repair means a proper housed joint or, better, replacing the run. Taped joints outdoors fail within months here, and a joint is always the weakest point in an installation.
Joint properly or replace
A soldered or crimped joint inside a weatherproof enclosure lasts. Tape does not. If the damaged run is short, replacing it outright is usually the better economy.
Rodents and shutters
The two most common causes of cut cable in this district are rodents in ceiling voids and roller shutters closing on a badly routed run. Both are prevented by routing, not by cable type.
Deliberate cuts
A cable cut where it is reachable suggests someone wanting the camera off. Routing cable inside conduit and entering the wall directly behind the camera removes the opportunity.
What happens if a CCTV cable is cut?
Can a damaged cable be repaired or must it be replaced?
Both work. We repair when the run is long and the damage is accessible, and replace when the run is short or the cable is old. We will tell you which is cheaper for your situation.
Will one cut cable affect the other cameras?
On a properly installed system, no — each camera has its own run. If several go down together, the fault is at the recorder, the switch or a shared power supply.
