The recorder is beeping or buzzing
A repeating beep is an alarm, not a fault in itself. The most common causes are a missing or failing hard drive, a camera showing video loss, or a motion alarm left enabled. The recorder's event log names the cause directly.
Read the event log
Every recorder logs what triggered the buzzer. Reading it takes a minute and removes all guesswork about which of the possible causes it is.
Drive alarm
A missing, unformatted or failing drive triggers a continuous alert. This is the one worth acting on immediately, because you are probably not recording.
Video loss
A disconnected camera sets off the same buzzer. Silencing it without fixing the camera means you stop hearing about the next one.
Why is my CCTV recorder beeping?
Can I just turn the buzzer off?
You can, and many people do — then miss a drive failure months later. Better to find what triggered it, fix that, and leave the alarm working.
It beeps only at night. Why?
Usually a camera dropping out when infra-red raises the power draw, triggering video loss. That points at the power supply rather than the recorder.
