Several cameras went offline at once
Several cameras failing together points at something shared: a power supply feeding the group, the network switch, or the recorder itself. A single camera failing is a camera problem; a group failing is almost never a coincidence.
Shared power supply
One multi-output adaptor feeding four cameras takes all four down when it fails. It is the most common cause of a group outage and the cheapest to fix.
The switch
On an IP system, the switch powers and connects every camera. A failed switch, or one exceeding its power budget at night, drops the lot.
Power budget at night
A switch close to its wattage limit copes in daylight and fails when infra-red switches on. Cameras dropping only at night, in a group, is this almost every time.
Why did all my cameras stop at the same time?
Does this mean my recorder has failed?
Not necessarily, and it is usually not the recorder. Check the shared power supply and the switch first — both are far more likely and far cheaper.
Why only at night?
Infra-red illuminators multiply the power draw. Anything marginal in the supply chain fails at dusk, which is a strong clue rather than a coincidence.
