Water has got into a camera
Condensation or water inside a housing means the seal or the cable entry has failed. Cameras usually fail permanently once water reaches the electronics, but a housing caught early can be dried and resealed. The cable gland, not the camera body, is the usual entry point.
The cable entry is the weak point
Water runs down the cable into the housing. A proper gland and a drip loop below the entry point prevent almost all of it, and both are frequently skipped.
Condensation versus ingress
Light misting inside a cover can be trapped humidity from installation and may clear. Standing water or corrosion means the seal has failed and the camera is usually finished.
Reseal or replace
If caught before corrosion, drying and resealing can save it. Once the board is corroded, replacement is the honest answer.
My outdoor camera has moisture inside. What now?
Are outdoor cameras not waterproof?
They are weather rated, not submersible, and the rating assumes correct installation. Most water failures we see are installation faults at the cable entry rather than product failures.
Would a housing help?
In exposed positions, yes. A shroud or a mounting position under an eave extends the life of an outdoor camera considerably at very little cost.
