What a CCTV service visit should actually cover
Twice a year for a normal shop, four times where there is dust, heat or heavy use. A proper visit cleans and refocuses every lens, verifies the recorder is genuinely writing, checks drive health, and tests remote access. Dust is the main enemy in this district.
Cleaning is the highest-value task
A dusty lens loses detail long before anything fails. Cleaning and a focus check deliver more improvement per rupee than any other maintenance activity here.
Verify recording, do not assume it
A live view that looks fine tells you nothing about whether footage is being stored. A real service visit retrieves footage from last week to prove it.
Drive health
Surveillance drives wear out in three to five years of continuous writing. Checking health means you replace it on a planned visit instead of discovering it after an incident.
Aim drift
Cameras on arms move with wind and vibration. Over a year a bullet can drift far enough to miss the thing it was installed for. Re-aiming is part of the job.
How often should CCTV be serviced?
What breaks CCTV systems most often here?
Dust on lenses, cheap power supplies, and hard drives that quietly stopped writing. In that order. None of the three is dramatic, which is exactly why they go unnoticed until footage is needed.
Can I clean the cameras myself?
You can wipe reachable housings with a soft damp cloth, and it helps. Do not use solvents on the dome cover — it hazes the plastic and the night picture never recovers.
Need this doing?
CCTV maintenance means scheduled visits to clean lenses, check focus, verify the recorder is still writing, confirm storage health and test remote access. Dust, heat and load-shedding are what actually kill systems here. Annual plans start at PKR 12,000 for a single shop.
