Automatic gates and how they pair with cameras
An automatic gate uses a sliding or swing motor with remote controls, safety sensors and optionally a number plate camera or card reader to open it. Pairing the gate with CCTV means every opening is recorded against the footage, so you can see who came in and when.
Sliding or swing
Sliding motors suit a level run alongside the wall and need the space for the gate to travel. Swing motors suit narrower plots but need clearance for the arc. The site decides, not the catalogue.
Safety sensors are not optional
A photocell beam across the opening stops the gate on an obstruction. On any gate near children or livestock this is the part not to economise on.
How it opens
Remote fob, keypad, card, phone or a recognised number plate. Most sites use two methods so there is a fallback when a fob battery dies.
Recorded openings
Wired to the camera system, each opening is stamped onto the same timeline as the footage. Searching by event beats scrubbing through hours of video.

What happens to the gate in a power cut?
A manual release lets you open it by hand, and a small battery backup can give a number of cycles. Both should be specified at quotation, not discovered during load-shedding.
Can the gate open from my phone?
Yes, with a controller on your network. It is convenient, and it should sit behind a proper password like anything else on your network.
