Wired vs wireless cameras
Choose wired wherever cable can reasonably be run — it is more reliable and cannot be interfered with. Choose wireless to cross a courtyard, reach a separate building, or where chasing cable is impractical. Wireless cameras still need power, so they are rarely truly wire-free.
Reliability
A cable does not care about weather, walls or a neighbour's new equipment. For a boundary protecting valuable stock, that certainty is worth the extra labour.
Where wireless earns its place
Between buildings, across a courtyard, or on stone and heritage structures. A point-to-point link is often far cheaper than trenching.
The power question
Wireless refers to the data, not the electricity. If you are already running power to the position, running data alongside costs very little more.
Should I choose wired or wireless CCTV?
Do wireless cameras use my internet data?
Recording is local, so no. Remote viewing does use your upload bandwidth, and several streams at once will be noticeable on a modest connection.
Are battery cameras any good?
For temporary or genuinely unreachable positions, yes. They record on motion only and somebody has to charge them, so treat them as a supplement rather than a system.
Need this doing?
IP cameras use network cable instead of coaxial, carry power over the same cable, and give higher resolution than analogue systems. They suit larger premises, longer cable runs and anyone who may add cameras later. A four-channel IP system starts around PKR 95,000 installed.
