CCTV for schools and academies
Schools need the main gate, corridors, the playground and the office covered, with cameras mounted out of reach and clear signage. Classrooms are usually left uncovered. Biometric attendance at the gate is frequently fitted at the same time and shares the same cabling.
Gate and boundary first
Knowing who entered and left, and when, is the core requirement. The gate camera at face height matters more than any number of internal cameras.
Vandal-resistant in corridors
Cameras within reach of students need vandal-resistant housings and tool-secured fixings. Standard domes in a corridor do not last a term.
Attendance on the same visit
A fingerprint or face terminal at the gate feeds a register and shares the cable run. Fitting both together costs far less than two separate jobs.
What CCTV does a school need?
Should classrooms have cameras?
Most schools decide not to, and we would not push it. The positions that reduce incidents are the gate, corridors and open areas, not the classroom.
Do parents need to be told?
Clear signage at the entrance is good practice and worth having regardless. It also does more deterrent work than the cameras themselves.
